Gestalt therapy is an experiential psychotherapy that emphasizes phenomenology, the dialogical relationship, field theory, and experimentation.

The Gestalt therapist views the person as a whole, incorporating both body and mind. This holistic approach involves working with bodily sensations and somatic experiences, alongside mental patterns and beliefs.

In a broader context, Gestalt therapy liberates clients from outdated behaviours and fosters exploration of present experiences, particularly in the therapeutic relationship. This relational dynamic can reflect the client’s interactions with their own systems and families, providing insights into how they connect with others in their lives.

As a Gestalt therapist with extensive experience, I am particularly passionate about the relational aspect of therapy. I engage with clients as an instrument in our connection, resonating with their emotional landscape. This allows me to meet them where they are, offering my full presence during our sessions.

Gestalt group process emphasizes the interconnectedness of individuals and their environments, viewing them as a unified system. Each part of this system affects the others, as highlighted by Fritz Perls in 1973, who described the relationship as the "contact boundary." No individual exists in isolation; their existence is inherently tied to the environmental field.

Hello there, I am Margarete Koenning and my passion lies in supporting people to move from disconnection to connection and in the activation of resilience within everybody.

The African principle of Ubuntu

 "I am because we are,"

reinforces this relational concept. At every moment, individuals are part of a field that includes both themselves and their environment. The nature of this relationship influences human behaviour. It illustrates that individuals cannot be disconnected; while they may experience disconnection due to trauma, they are always part of a larger system.

The group process offers opportunities for healing through witnessing and being witnessed, emphasizing that every hurt and healing occurs in relation to others.

I have dedicated over 40 years to facilitating group processes, primarily in clinical settings in Germany. My experience includes managing a 14-bed ward where we conducted closed group work for over six months. This profound experience provides a solid foundation for my work with groups, allowing me to effectively engage in and facilitate their processes.

My passion for family constellation work began in 1999 when I discovered this modality in Germany. I trained extensively over several years with pioneering practitioners, gaining insights into systemic work that reveals larger patterns and connections. This approach has allowed clients to address intergenerational trauma and recognize inherited family patterns.

In 2000, I began training in family constellation in Australia. Over the past two and a half years, I have been involved in establishing a systemic constellation training academy in Queensland with two remarkable women, Melanie Enders and Antonia Kersting.

As the Elder in this lineage, I am committed to sharing my knowledge and ensuring the continuity of this practice for future generations. I am grateful for the opportunity to nurture this unique approach to constellation work and contribute to its legacy.

Supervision in psychotherapy, whether it involves gestalt therapy or family constellation work, is essential. It is crucial for the wellbeing of both the therapist and the client, as it fosters safety.

Everyone working with human beings should ideally participate in supervision. This process offers a secure space for practitioners to reflect on their practices, receive guidance, and address potential challenges.

Supervision promotes professional growth and wellbeing. It serves as an opportunity for self-care and reflection on one’s work. Long-term practice can lead to feeling stuck in various areas, and gaining an outside perspective can be beneficial.

It is important that supervision offers a safe environment where therapists can discuss issues related to their professional work.

As a supervisor, I also engage in supervision of supervision. This ongoing process ensures that we continuously address boundaries, ethical codes, and other crucial aspects of our work.

I look forward to providing supervision for you and seeing you there.
